Elite freeze Waves in PBA D-League Foundation Cup
Blackwater Sports held Boracay Rum without a field goal in the first seven minutes of the fourth period as the Elite downed the Waves, 67-56, on Tuesday in the 2012 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at The Arena in San Juan City. Kelly Nabong scored 11 of his season-high 26 points in the pivotal fourth period as the Elite sealed their third win in four matches. Blackwater joins idle Big Chill in second place in the standings behind defending champion NLEX's 3-0 card. The Elite used an 18-0 blast in the fourth quarter to pull away, then effectively protected the lead to secure the win. Nabong also grabbed 15 rebounds. "We struggled executing our offense so we try to do it the old-fashion way by going one-on-one. We got lucky with Kelly, when they tried to double-team us, our guards were hitting their shots," said Blackwater Sports coach Leo Isaac. Nabong's long two-pointer buried Boracay Rum deeper with Blackwater rolling to a 60-49 advantage with four minutes and four seconds to go in the game. In the first game, Raymond Ilagan nailed a go-ahead basket late in the fourth quarter to power RnW Pacific Pipes to a 74-73 win over Erase Plantcenta. Ilagan launched a hook shot with 67 seconds left in the game as the Steelmasters grabbed the lead. RnW sealed the win after Erase Plantcenta failed to score at the other end to improve to 2-2. Ilagan had a team-high 21 points as JR Buensuceso added 19 for RnW Pacific Pipes. — JVP, GMA News
