NBA: Memphis' Selby, Portland's Lillard named co-MVPs of Vegas Summer League

Memphis Grizzly sophomore guard Josh Selby and Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard shared MVP honors on Sunday (Monday, PHL time) as the Las Vegas Summer League drew to a close. Selby was a second-round draft pick by the Grizzlies in the 2011 Draft, figuring in just 28 games in the 2011-12 lockout-shortened season with averages of 2.3 points, 0.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists. In four Summer League games though, he's normed 27.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals, while shooting 59.3 percent from the field. Lillard on the other hand, was the sixth overall pick in this year's draft, after a four-year collegiate career at Weber State, where he was a two-time Big Sky Conference Player of the Year awardee. The Trail Blazers hoped he would be their solution at the point guard spot and the early returns have been favorable, with the 22-year old norming 26.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 0.5 steals over four games as well. The two were also named to the All-Summer League squad, along with the following:

• Jeremy Lamb - 6'5" shooting guard - Houston Rockets - 20.0ppg, 4.4rpg, 1.0spg
• Dominique Jones - 6'5" shooting guard - Dallas Mavericks - 16.4ppg, 4.8rpg, 5.0apg
• Cory Joseph - 6'3" point guard - San Antonio Spurs - 17.0ppg, 4.4rpg, 5.2apg, 1.8spg
• Jimmy Butler - 6'7" swingman - Chicago Bulls - 20.8ppg, 6.5rpg, 2.0apg, 0.8spg

One notable omission to the squad though was Adam Morrison, the former Charlotte Bobcat and Los Angeles Laker. Morrison figured in four games for the Los Angeles Clippers team and normed 18.5 points on 53.7 percent shooting, 60 percent from three-point territory, and 4.8 rebounds, with his play actually drawing chants of "M-V-P" from the fans. - AMD, GMA News
