The Senate on Monday commended Smart Gilas Pilipinas national team member LA Tenorio for being named as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the recently concluded Jones Cup in Taiwan. During Monday's session, the Senate adopted Senate Resolution No. 963, which seeks to commend and congratulate Tenorio for being named the MVP in the 34th William Jones Cup in Taipei last August 26. The resolution was introduced by Sen. Pia Cayetano. "LA Tenorio deserves praise and recognition for bringing pride and honor to the country, and for being a role model who manifests the value of hard work, perseverance, discipline, and humility," she said in her resolution. The 5'8" Tenorio led the country's national team to a historic win over the American team by scoring 20 points during the final match. The Senate had earlier commended the Smart Gilas team for winning the Jones Cup by adopting Senate Resolution No. 127. Also commended were the coaching staff and officials of Smart Gilas.
