GlobalPort taps new import Shawn Taggart to replace Calvin Warner

Hoping to turn around their conference after key injuries to stars, GlobalPort has tapped Shawn Taggart to replace Calvin Warner as their import in the Commissioner's Cup.

Team manager Bonnie Tan posted a photo of the 6-foot-9 big man, who attended his first practice with the Batang Pier on Friday afternoon.

Taggart is the third import that GlobalPort brought in for the conference. With Brian Williams and Warner, GlobalPort has only two wins in six games to send the team to the bottom of the standings.

The two imports did not disappoint statistically-speaking, but injuries to back court partners Stanley Pringle and Terrence Romeo forced the team to make a move to save their playoff campaign.

Taggart, 31, played college basketball for the Memphis Tigers but went undrafted in the 2009 NBA Draft. He played for the Toronto Raptors in the Summer League before pursuing a professional career overseas.

A veteran journeyman, he played in Israel, Spain, Turkey, China, Qatar, and the NBA D-League.

He will see action on Saturday against the streaking Alaska Aces at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City. —Marisse Panaligan/JST, GMA News
