Fire put out hours before Hornets-Grizzlies game

An electrical fire led to FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn., being evacuated a few hours before the Grizzlies hosted the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night.

The arena was evacuated at approximately 5 p.m. ET. About a dozen firetrucks showed up to put out the fire, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

"A small electrical fire was discovered in the sauna located in the Grizzlies locker room area, and FedExForum was evacuated," the Grizzlies said in a statement.

"Memphis Fire was contacted immediately, and the fire has been subsequently extinguished."

Players and game-night workers were allowed back into the building about an hour later.

Tipoff was slated for 8 p.m. ET. —Reuters
