Timberwolves sign former Butler star Martin to two-way contract

The Minnesota Timberwolves signed former Butler star Kelan Martin to a two-way contract on Friday.

Gersson Rosas, Minnesota's president of basketball operations, made the announcement, which did not include any terms, per team policy.

Martin, who turned 24 on Aug. 3, was a standout for the Timberwolves' entry in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, where he averaged 12.9 points and 6.6 rebounds in 21.9 minutes over seven games off the bench.

"All I needed was a opportunity, thanks @Timberwolves can't wait to get to work," wrote Martin on social media.

Martin recorded a game-high 19 points in the title game against Memphis on July 15.

Last season, the 6-foot-7 forward played for MHP Reisen Ludwigsburg in Germany, where he averaged 13.7 points and 4.4 rebounds in 27 games. Martin played four seasons at Butler, and finished his career as the Bulldogs' third all-time leading scorer with 2,047 points.

Teams are allowed to sign two players to two-way contracts in addition to the 15-man regular-season roster. Such players can accrue no more than 45 days with their respective NBA team during the regular season and spend the remainder of the season with the team's G-League affiliate. The Timberwolves' G-League affiliate is the Iowa Wolves, based in Des Moines. —Field Level Media/Reuters
