Michael Jordan pledges $1M to Hurricane Dorian relief in Bahamas

Michael Jordan pledged $1 million Tuesday to the Hurricane Dorian relief effort in the Bahamas.

The Charlotte Hornets owner and NBA Hall of Fame member owns property there and is a frequent visitor to the area that was devastated by the Category 5 storm earlier this month.

"My heart goes out to everyone who is suffering and to those who have lost loved ones," he said in a statement. "As the recovery and relief efforts continue, I will be tracking the situation closely and working to identify non-profit agencies where the funds will have the most impact. The Bahamian people are strong and resilient and I hope that my donation will be of help as they work to recover from this catastrophic storm."

The official death toll has climbed to 50 in the Bahamas but is expected to rise. Thousands remain missing or displaced.
