E-Gilas escapes early Indonesia run for FIBA Esports Open sweep

The Philippines reigned supreme in the Southeast Asia conference of the inaugural FIBA Esports Open after escaping Indonesia's early run, 71-35, Sunday.

E-Gilas went on a rampage in the second half of their final game and limited Indonesia to just 19 markers against their dominant 49-point performance to complete the five-game sweep.

The Indonesians looked to tarnish the Philippines' unblemished record in the tournament as they went ahead early in the game and ended the first five minutes of action at a deadlock, 9-9.

Gilas even trailed, 14-9, at the 2:26 mark of the second period, but they managed to turn the game around and ended the first half at 22-16.

The national team is composed of Rocky Braña, Philippe Herrero IV, Clark Banzon, Al Timajo, Aljon Cruzin, Rial Polog Jr., and Custer Galas.

The games are streamed on FIBA’s Facebook, Twitch, and YouTube channels, and is played on NBA 2K. — Justin Kenneth Carangang/BM, GMA News
