Yeng Guiao on COVID-19 case in PBA bubble: 'Nagtataka ako paano nakapasok'

NLEX head coach Yeng Guiao said he is "psychologically prepared" for the possibility of having COVID-19 cases in the PBA bubble.

Before his team played NorthPort on Wednesday, the league announced that one of its referees tested positive for the virus after a mandatory swab test.

It was the first case of COVID-19 in the bubble since the season resumed on October 11, but Guiao said it "wasn't really a big issue" for him heading to the game.

"Alam ko talaga, mahirap talaga i-100% [virus-free], something might go wrong," he said after the Road Warriors won the match against Batang Pier, 102-88.

"Mahirap talaga eh. We really don't know all about the virus. Ako nagtataka ako paano nakapasok sa higpit ng protocol natin," the coach added.

Despite the COVID-19 scare, however, Guiao said he wasn't really worried about staying in the bubble.

In a joint statement on Wednesday, the league, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority and the Clark Development Corporation assured that they have everything under control.

"I'm not really in a state of panic or whatever. These people know what they're doing, they can handle the situation," Guiao said.

The PBA said the referee may be a case of "false positive" after yielding a negative result in the antigen test, but an RT-PCR test is still needed to confirm this.

Heightened protocols will be imposed inside the bubble and activities such as swimming, gym, and jogging, will be temporarily suspended for the decontamination of the facilities.

Games are still a go and stricter measures will be in place inside the bubble and in the Angeles University Foundation Gym where the games are being played. —Justin Kenneth Carandang/MGP, GMA News
