Kai Sotto compares game to 'all-around' player Pau Gasol

By JUSTIN KENNETH CARANDANG,GMA News

If there is one player Kai Sotto would compare himself to, the Filipino hoops sensation said it would be Pau Gasol.

For Sotto, Gasol is an all-around player, someone "who can score, who can pass, who can defend too, who can dribble, [and] who can shoot."

The 7-foot-2 big man shared in a media availability session on Thursday that the comparison is also influenced by his coaches in the NBA G League.

"He's the player that I really watch these days, especially being around Coach Rasheed [Abdur-Rahman] and Coach B (Brian) Shaw who coached Pau Gasol before," he said. "We've been watching clips of them, especially the Lakers and the Chicago Bulls before."

In terms of his game, Sotto thinks he has become "much better offensively" over the course of his G League training.

"They helped me improve, like they helped me 'be comfortable being uncomfortable.' There are things I'm not really good at, spots that I need to improve on more," he said.

"They help me everyday in the spots that I'm having trouble with because at the end of the day, when I go to the next level, those are the things that opponents will try to expose, so everybody is just doing a really good job helping each other," he added.

Sotto is part of the NBA G League select team Ignite along with other basketball prospects Daishen Nix, Isaiah Todd, Jonathan Kuminga, Princepal Singh, and Fil-Am Jalen Green. —MGP, GMA News
