Dwight Ramos draws praise from Toroman: 'Like a European player', 'big prospect' for Gilas

Dwight Ramos is drawing praise from all over for his stellar play - and not just from the Philippines.

Indonesia head coach Rajko Toroman said that the 6-foot-4 Ramos has been a revelation for him, not only in this third window but as well as the previous windows where the athletic cager showed his wares.

"I think that the biggest surprise for me, not (only) looking today but looking at the tournament in Bahrain in the first game is Dwight Ramos," the veteran tactician said when asked who was the player that surprised him the most.

"He’s looking like a European player, with size and (he's) very tough and athletic who can shoot the ball."

True enough, the 22-year-old Ramos is shaping up to be the cornerstone of this youthful Gilas squad.

In the Philippines' 76-51 win tonight against Toroman's team, Ramos, a recruit for the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the UAAP, carried the cudgels for Gilas on both ends of the floor.

He finished with 10 points on 4-for-12 shooting from the field, but also crashed the boards hard with 12 rebounds and disrupted the Indonesia defense with three steals.

In the team's previous game against South Korea, he scored a team-high 16 markers alongside five rebounds and two steals in a breathtaking 81-78 triumph.

In two games against Thailand in the second window, Ramos also scored 20 points and 13 points. He shot a perfect 7-for-7 from the field to go with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals in the first of the pair of games.

According to Toroman, who's a familiar face within the Philippine basketball coaching circle, Ramos could be an important piece for the national team moving forward.

"(He's) a really big prospect from Gilas."
