Filipino-American Jalen Green picked 2nd overall in 2021 NBA Draft


Filipino-American Jalen Green was picked 2nd overall by the Houston Rockets in the 2021 NBA Draft on Thursday (Friday in Manila).

Jalen Green played for the Ignite team in the NBA G League. He averaged 17.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in the G League season.

He also suited up for the US team in the 2018 FIBA Under-17 World Cup. He averaged 15.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.4 steals on his way to being named tournament MVP.

His mother traces her roots to Ilocos Sur.

Filipino fans had a chance to watch Green here as part of the FilAm Sports USA team that competed against local high school teams in the NBTC National Finals a few years ago.

He was also teammates with Filipino teen Kai Sotto at Ignite before Sotto exited the program before the start of the G League season.
