The Adelaide 36ers, Kai Sotto's team in the National Basketball League (NBL), have released head coach Conner Henry ahead of the 2021-2022 season.

The club said in a press release Thursday

that with the preseason buildup yet to hit the ground, the management has determined that Henry's direction does not match that of the club.

And although Henry's release is effective immediately, Jeff Van Groningen, the team's general manager of basketball, said the decision wasn't easy but was still made as they eye a better performance this year.

"While decisions such as these occur regularly in professional sport and are part of the business, they are never easy," Groningen said.

"Coming off a challenging season we now pivot to the future and we felt that the fit between Conner and the Club was not aligned as we move to that future."

The team has yet to announce who will replace Henry, who was hired last year and steered the team to a 13-23 win-loss record.

Henry was also one of the men behind Sotto's arrival in the NBL and even stressed in one of interviews that he's excited to see how the 7-foot-3 Filipino will flourish.
