Gilas Women leave for Jordan on Tuesday night for FIBA Women's Asia Cup

The Gilas Pilipinas women's national basketball team is set to leave for Jordan on Tuesday night, September 21, to join the 2021 FIBA Women's Asia Cup .

Ryan Gregorio, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) special assistant to the president, confirmed the news to GMA News Online and said the delegation will be composed of 12 players and seven staff.

Veterans Afril Bernardino and Janine Pontejos are set to lead the team while completing the squad are Andrea Tongco, Ria Nabalan, France Mae Cabinbin, Khate Castillo, Clare Castro, Mar Prado , Ella Fajardo, Camille Clarin, Kristine Cayabyab, and Karl Ann Pingol.

Along with head coach Patrick Aquino are assistant coaches Julie Amos and Jose Ramos Garcia and trainer Paolo Gorospe. Also joining are Dr. Jessie Lazaro, the team doctor, Rassel Urag (PT), and Leonardo Felisilda (Utility).

The team had set up training camp in Lipa, Batangas early this month in preparation for a tough competition in the Asia Cup, where the nationals were drawn with no. 3 Australia, no. 7 China, and no. 34 Chinese Taipei in the group phase of Division A.

The team, however, will be without main gunner Jack Animam as she is currently training for her Serbia stint.
