Matthew Wright steps up at right time, sends Phoenix past TNT

Matthew Wright made the right shot at just the right time as the Phoenix Super LPG Fuelmasters eked out a win against TNT Tropang Giga, 93-92, on Sunday in the PBA Governors Cup.

With Phoenix down by just a single point, 92-91, and less than 10 seconds left, Wright got a steal off of a Jayson Castro turnover and completed the play with a go-ahead layup to give Phoenix the lead at the last three seconds mark.

Troy Rosario tried to save the game for TNT but a Jason Perkins block stopped the Tropang Giga's plan, handing the Fuelmasters their fourth win of the conference.

TNT led for the majority of the final period, until a 5-0 run cut Phoenix' deficit to one, 90-89, with 2:20 left. Mikey Williams finished a layup to make it a three-point game before Perkins answered with 27 seconds remaining to set up the endgame.

Phoenix had the upper hand at the end of the first half, 44-41.

Wright finished with game-highs of 27 points and 10 assists, with nine of his points coming in the third period.

RJ Jazul added 16 points while import Dominque Sutton added 13 points and 10 boards.

Meanwhile, Mikey Williams registered 22 markers in the losing effort, with Gab Banal adding 18. Import Aaron Fuller had 11 points and 23 rebounds, while locals Jayson Castro and Troy Rosario chipped in 11 points each.

With the win, Phoenix improved to 4-2, while TNT slid to 2-4.

The loss, TNT's second straight since the conference restart, is a bit of a blow to the team as they complete their-four game schedule before some of their players and head coach Chot Reyes join the Gilas Pilipinas national team for the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers.

Phoenix will go against the Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok on Saturday while TNT will see action again on Wednesday against the San Miguel Beermen.

The scores:
