Sangalang, Jalalon power Magnolia past Barangay Ginebra in all-Filipino duel

Ian Sangalang and Jio Jalalon powered the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots past Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings, 89-84, as the two teams faced off in another edition of their rivalry game on Sunday in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Sangalang made 24 points while Jalalon scored 19 to notch Magnolia's second win of the conference.

The Hotshots survived Ginebra's late rally, with a Rome dela Rosa triple sealing the win after Christian Standhardinger cut the Gin Kings' deficit to two, 86-84.

Magnolia held on to the game despite Calvin Abueva's ejection early in the fourth period due to unsportsmanlike behavior.

Magnolia led by as much as 14, 60-46, near the halfway mark of the third period.

On top of his 24 points, Sangalang also made nine rebounds, while Abueva had nine points and eight rebounds.

LA Tenorio tallied 15 markers, Scottie Thompson added 13, while Standhardinger posted 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Hotshots (2-3) will face Phoenix on Friday, while Ginebra (2-1) will play NLEX on Wednesday.
