Will Kai Sotto play for Gilas Pilipinas in FIBA Asia Cup? Chot Reyes answers

Kai Sotto will most likely not play in the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup in Indonesia.

"With Kai, mukhang wala na," Gilas Pilipinas program director Chot Reyes on Sunday said on Sunday when asked by the media if the 20-year-old center will be available for the tournament.

"Mukhang he decided to do some other thing and forego the FIBA Asia Cup."

Reyes said that they have communicated with Kai's camp but have yet to receive an answer regarding his availability.

"They haven't said no, but they're not saying yes. If it's not a yes, we know what it is right?" he said.

Sotto was undrafted in the recently held 2022 NBA Rookie Draft and was reported to join the national team after being not picked.

Reyes admitted that the team needs a big man in addition to Geo Chiu.

Gilas head coach Nenad Vucinic said he hopes to bring in Thirdy Ravena and Ray Parks in the mix for the FIBA Asia Cup.
