Reigning All-FIlipino titleholder TNT banked on a strong start as it drew first blood against Magnolia, 108-96, in Game 1 of their best-of-seven semifinals affair in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday.

Mikey Williams, RR Pogoy, and Glenn Khobuntin took turns in steering the Tropang Giga as they went 1-0 in the finals rematch against last edition's runner-up Magnolia.

Williams poured 26 points, five rebounds, four assists, and one steal while Pogoy registered 23 markers, five dimes, and three boards. Khobuntin sparked off the bench with 18 points and seven rebounds.

The ever-reliable Williams waxed hot from the get-go, dropping 18 of his overall output to lead the charge for TNT as they held a huge 54-37 cushion at the halftime mark.

It was Pogoy and Khobuntin's turn to lead the way in the second half as the former FEU standout unleashed nine points in the third quarter while Khobuntin had six as their lead ballooned to 20, 86-66, before heading to the final quarter.

Although the Hotshots managed to trim their deficit to just 15, 105-90, after a Calvin Abueva triple late in the game, TNT's early lead was too much to overcome for the Chito Victolero-mentored squad.

Abueva led Magnolia with 18 points and eight rebounds while Jio Jalalon and Ian Sangalang each chipped in 14 markers in the losing effort.

TNT will look to go for a second win on Friday in Game 2 of the series at 6 p.m.
