San Beda demolishes Letran in Filoil tilt; La Salle books QF ticket
San Beda University got its first win under new head coach Yuri Escueta at the expense of rival Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 102-77, on Sunday at the Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup in San Juan.
The Red Lions led by as much as 34 points in the fourth quarter, 95-61, with 6:28 left in the game.
James Kwekuteye had 18 points, five rebounds, and five assists to lead the Mendiola-based squad, while Peter Alfaro added 16 points to improve to 1-3.
Gab Cometa tallied 14 markers, while JB Bahio and Tony Ynot had 13 and 10 points each.
On the Letran side, Fran Yu had a game-high 21 points, while Louie Sangalang and Kurt Reyson made 16 and 14 points, respectively, to go down to 2-2.
Meanwhile, De La Salle University booked a ticket to the quarterfinals of the preseason tournament after a 75-47 win against San Sebastian College-Recoletos.
Ice Blanco stood out for the Archers with 16 points to remain perfect in the standings.
Earlier, Adamson University defeated University of the Philippines, 71-64. Joem Sabandal and Jerom Lastimosa tallied 14 markers each to wrap their elimination round campaign on a 5-3 record.
Filoil games will be back in action on Monday.
