By BEA MICALLER,GMA News

Alex Eala barged into her first-ever US Open finals appearance after edging Victoria Mboko of Canada, 6-1, 7-6 (5), in their semifinal encounter on Saturday morning (Manila time)  at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, United States.

The Filipina teen tennis sensation needed just one hour and 21 minutes to dispose of the Canadian netter.

Both Eala and Mboko committed six double faults while the Canada bet bested the Philippine representative in aces, five to two. But it was Eala’s limited errors that got her the win as she only had 21 against the 31 from Mboko.

Eala will next face Lucie Havlickova of Czech Republic in the final round on Sunday, hoping to bag her third overall Grand Slam and first-ever in the singles play.

Eala was dominant all throughout the competition, besting Annabelle Xu and Nina Vargova in the first and second round before pulling off a 6-2, 7-6 (1) victory against Australia's Taylah Preston.

In the Round of 8, the 17-year-old Filipina dominated Mirra Andreeva of Russia to arrange a semis duel with Mboko.
