Rookie-laden Onic secures playoff spot with sweep of RSG

By JOHN EDISON UBALDO

Onic Philippines once again proved their place in the league as they became the first team to secure a playoff spot after sweeping defending champions RSG Philippines, 2-0, in Week 6 of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 10 on Sunday.

They asserted their mastery of RSG whom they also swept in the first round of the regular season en route to a 7-4 record (21pts) and take the top spot in the standings.

Onic drew first blood after a back-and-forth Game 1 with Stephen “Sensui” Castillo (Karina) executing a clutch Shadow Assault + Retribution play from deep in their jungle territory to secure the 24th minute evolved lord and help the rookie-laden squad emerge from three inhibitor turrets down.

Earlier in that play, Nowee “Ryota” Macasa (Paquito) combined with Ralph “Rapidoot” Adrales (Chou) to punish Eman "EMANN" Sangco's (Claude) overextension in the midlane that set-up the lord area for Sensui's clutch display.

With two RSG members down, Onic delivered the killing blow moments later with a one-way push, 1-0.

RSG looked to have recovered in Game 2 as they took a 3-1 lead in the kill tally but succumbed to a 3-1 tradeoff in a lengthy 8th minute midlane skirmish courtesy of Rapidoot's (Atlas) two-man Fatal Links set-up.

With Atlas and Faramis in tow, Onic utilized their heroes' potential to the fullest, unleashing a daredevil inhibitor turret invasion in the 10th minute banking on the Fatal Links and Cult Altar ultimate skills to sustain the clash and score the closing 5-0 wipeout.
