La Salle snaps UP's seven-game streak; NU enters Final Four, knocks UST out of contention

De La Salle University took down University of the Philippines, 82-80, to snap the defending champions' seven-game winning streak in UAAP Season 85 on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Green Archers were leading, 80-75, before JD Cagulangan connected from rainbow country and cut their deficit to within two with 12.5 seconds left. Kevin Quiambao's clutch free throws sealed the deal for the Taft-based squad before Malik Diouf made a shot before the game clock expired.

Quiambao tallied 18 points, 9 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block to lead the Archers, while Mark Nonoy and CJ Austria chipped in 15 and 10 points, respectively to improve their standings to 5-6 and deal UP its second loss this season.

Meanwhile, National University clinched a Final Four spot after overcoming the University of Santo Tomas, 67-57, and eventually eliminating the Growling Tigers from Final Four contention.

Ateneo de Manila University defeated Far Eastern University, 71-65, while Adamson University beat the University of the East, 74-64.

Despite the loss, UP remained at the top of the standings with a 10-2 card, while NU stayed at second with 9-3. Ateneo has eight wins and three losses to keep their seat at the third spot, while La Salle and Adamson both had 5-6 cards. UE and FEU both had 4-8, while UST was dealt their 10th loss.

UAAP action will return on Wednesday with another quadruple-header, with FEU and Adamson taking on the marquee matchup at 6:30 pm.
