Ahanmisi tows Converge past Bolick-less NorthPort

Maverick Ahanmisi got his shooting to work early to guide Converge's 122-92 assault of NorthPort in the 2022-2023 PBA Governors' Cup on Sunday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

The former third overall pick already converted 17 points at the half, where the FiberXers enjoyed a huge 20-point lead, 66-46. A layup from him then made it a 73-50 cushion for Converge in the third period before they headed to the fourth with an 88-69 advantage.

The Batang Pier got to within 15 early in the final period, 88-73, after a basket by Joshua Munzon, who was playing his first game since being involved in a trade from Terrafirma.

But the Batang Pier could not get their shots down as Ahanmisi sent Converge to a 97-74 lead with his triple.

Ahanmisi did all that off the bench to finish with a team-high 29 points to go along with nine assists, six rebounds, one steal, and one block while import Ethan Rusbatch had 17 markers, nine boards, and three dimes in his debut.

Jeron Teng was also pivotal with his 16 points, nine rebounds, and four assists as Converge spoiled Bonnie Tan's stint as NorthPort's interim coach.

Marcus Weathers poured it all out for the Batang Pier, collecting 37 points, 12 rebounds, three steals, and two assists but his numbers were not enough as NorthPort missed the services of star guard Robert Bolick.

Arvin Tolentino and JM Calma provided the help to Weathers as they registered 12 and 10 apiece.
