PNVF says Philippine men’s volleyball team to still compete in SEA Games despite group draw absence

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) on Wednesday said the men’s team will still participate in the 32nd SEA Games this May in Cambodia despite the team being not included in the group draw held earlier today.

In a social media post by Cambodia 2023, the men’s team was surprisingly not in the draw, while the women’s team was bunched in Group B alongside Vietnam, Singapore, and the host country.

PNVF national team commission head Tony Boy Liao clarified the men’s squad will still see action in the biennial meet, even stressing the crew will depart for  Japan this weekend for a training camp.

“Yes & they’re leaving this Sunday for a 15-day training in Osaka, Japan,” said Liao in a message to GMA Integrated News when asked whether the team will play.

Liao added that they will also seek clarifications from Chito Loyzaga, the country’s chef de mission to the SEA Games, as well as Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).

The development came just days after PNVF revealed its rosters for the SEA Games, where Alyssa Valdez and Vince Mangulabnan will serve as team captain for the women’s and men’s teams, respectively.

“I’m now checking with Chito Loyzaga of POC. It’s the POC who handles the entry by numbers & names.”

GMA Integrated News has already sought a comment from Loyzaga, but has yet to get a response as of writing.
