Benilde makes late rally to take down San Beda

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde completed a comeback in the fourth quarter to take down San Beda University, 96-87, in the Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup on Saturday in San Juan.

The Red Lions were up 84-82 with 5:39 left in the fourth period before the Blazers made an 11-0 run, which included triples from Robi Nayve and Migs Oczon, to take a 93-84 lead with 1:13 remaining. Bryan Sajonia trimmed the deficit but free throws from Nayve in the endgame sealed the win for the Taft-based squad.

Nayve and Oczon combined for 49 points with 25 and 24 apiece, with the latter having 10 boards on his statline. Zenric Jarque had 10 points to his name in Benilde's fifth win in seven games.

Bryan Sajonia had 21 points and eight rebounds while Yukien Andrada and Jom Puno had 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Earlier, University of the Philippines (5-2) escaped National University (3-2), 72-65.

Filoil action continues on Sunday with University of the East taking on Centro Escolar University and San Sebastian College-Recoletos facing Mapua University in the morning, and Lyceum of the Philippines University going against Colegio de San Juan de Letran at 2 p.m. Sunday's marquee matchup will be the faceoff of rivals De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University at 4 p.m.
