Klay Thompson praises Team USA's performance in FIBA World Cup

By JUSTIN KENNETH CARANDANG,GMA Integrated News

Klay Thompson lauded Team USA's performance in the ongoing 2023 FIBA World Cup.

The American team, which Thompson described as "some of the best young players in the NBA," swept their group stage matches against New Zealand, Greece, and Jordan to advance to the second round of the tournament in Manila.

"Steve [Kerr is] doing a great job and the great thing when you watch Team USA is the guys put their egos aside. They don't care who in the team leads in scoring or rebounding or steals," Thompson said in a press conference in Manila, organized by sports brand Anta.

"All that matters when you play for Team USA is winning the gold. That's beautiful to see," said the Golden State star.

Thompson himself previously played for the United States during the 2014 FIBA World Cup and the 2016 Rio Olympics where the team both won gold medals.

"It's different when you're competing, country to country and the rest of the world."

Thompson is in Manila along with teammate Kevon Looney for the Asia Squad Tour.

Team USA, meanwhile, will start their second round matches on Friday when they play Montenegro.
