Filipino lawyer Romulo Macalintal has asked the attorney general of the Nevada to investigate the highly questionable scorings and decision of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight championship fight between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley last June 9.   In his complaint to Nevada attorney general Catherine Cortez Masto, Macalintal said he filed the complaint “as a boxing fan or enthusiast whose right to a fair and credible verdict in any sporting event, like the millions of boxing fans and enthusiasts, is entitled to the protection by the state where the said event is held.”   He claims he has the right to file the complaint “because he strongly feels and believes that the decision rendered by the judges was not fair and did not reflect the true results of the said boxing bout.”   Macalintal added that his complaint may be “treated as a class suit on behalf of those boxing fans who also deserved to be heard of their complaint and grievances and whose number is so huge that it is impracticable to include them in this letter-complaint.”   He also asked Masto to suspend or waive “all legal formalities in the filing of this complain in the highest interest of justice in view of the worldwide attention generated” by the controversial boxing bout decision.”   Citing an Associated Press news report, Macalintal also explained to Masto that he did not bring his complaint to the Nevada State Athletic Commission because that body’s executive director, Keith Kizer had said “he has no plans to review the fight, even though he acknowledged having Pacquiao ahead.”   To substantiate his allegation that the judges’ decision “did not reflect the true results”, Macalintal enumerated the results of the scorecards of at least fifty one sportswriters of various news agencies which showed that only three scorecards were in favor of Bradley. He cited Wikipedia, the free web-based encyclopedia as his source.   He also pointed to the scorecards of various boxing-themed websites and the statistics of CompuBox which were in favor of Pacquiao for landing “253 of 751 punches (or 34%) while Bradley landed 159 or 839 (or 19%), and that Pacquiao also landed 82 more power shots (190-108).” — ELR, GMA News
