Pinoy boxer Marvin Sonsona arrives at US training camp to work with controversial conditioning coach

Former world super flyweight champion Marvin Sonsona arrived in Las Vegas Saturday in preparation for his upcoming WBC title eliminator against world rated Jayson Velez of Puerto Rico.

Sonsona (19-1-1, 15KOs), 24, is accompanied by his Filipino trainer Jun Agrabio and stablemate John Riel Casimero, a former world champion himself.

"I'm very happy that Sonsona and Casimero are working together in Las Vegas, my hometown," said the pair's co-promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz.

"I'm looking forward to having two more champions for my promotional company in the very near future."

Joining Sonsona for the first time is the highly controversial strength and conditioning coach Angel "Memo" Heredia, widely known for his jaded past as an illegal performance enhancing drugs (PED) guru.

Eyebrows were raised and public suspicion hounded Heredia in 2012 when he transformed a then 39-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez to a muscular power puncher that put Manny Pacquiao to sleep in their fourth encounter.

Despite reasonable suspicions, none of Heredia's boxers had ever failed a drug test.

Details of the Sonsona-Velez clash are still being finalized. - RAF, GMA News
