Mayweather set to begin training for Pacquiao fight

Floyd Mayweather is expected to begin training this week for his May 2 fight with Manny Pacquiao.

The unbeaten American champion is set to plunge into his preparations some nine weeks away from the mega-fight, according to a report by Ben Thompson on fighthype.com.

Mayweather said that while Pacquiao may have lost a step, he's not taking the Filipino ring icon lightly.

"He may not be the same fighter, but this is a guy that I cannot overlook. He got here somehow and some way. You never take nothing for granted because anything can happen," Mayweather said.

But even though it's the richest fight in the sport's history, Mayweather said he's not treating it any differently from any of his previous bouts.

"To me, it's just another day. It's just another fight. I mean, when you just look at the tale of the tape, I have a longer reach, I'm taller, I'm stronger, and I'm more accurate. I think I seen a major change in Pacquiao," Mayweather said.

Pacquiao has already begun light training for the fight in the Philippines before flying to the United States this weekend to continue his buildup. He will reportedly begin sparring next week. —JST, GMA News
