I whooped Pacquiao in sparring, claims potential Mayweather foe

Floyd Mayweather's potential next opponent Karim Mayfield is eager for a chance to prove he belongs in boxing's elite level of fighters.

Mayfield, together with former world welterweight champion Andre Berto, are on the shortlist to fight the unbeaten American in what would be his final ring appearance in September.

The 34-year-old Mayfield, who holds a record of 19-2-1 with 11 knockouts, believes that he will be a handful for his fellow American should he get the fight.

"I'm always ready to fight anyone anywhere. The fact that the great Floyd Mayweather has mentioned me as someone he wants to fight in September is music to my ears," said Mayfield.

"I know I would give Floyd all he can handle. My trainer Ben Bautista and I have a game plan we know will be successful against Mayweather. I'd give Floyd his first loss in a highly explosive fight."

Despite not having fought a top level opponent yet in his resume, Mayfield has sparred with the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan, Zab Judah and Shane Mosley in the past.

He uses these experiences and determination to fuel his hunger, boldly stating how he gave Pacquiao a beating inside the ring in one of their sparring sessions.

"No one can deny my heart and determination to fight the best. I've been the ring with everyone," said Mayfield.

"I whooped Pacquiao and Khan in sparring. Shawn Porter (former world welterweight champion) refused to step in the ring when he had the choice to fight me or Erick Bone with only one day notice. A lot of fighters have ducked me because I'm a serious threat to anyone." —JST, GMA News
