Manny Pacquiao should fight two more times then run for presidency–Freddie Roach

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach Eight has laid down the fine print for Manny Pacquiao’s path to retirement.

The celebrated trainer is convinced that the eight-division champion has two more fights left in him. After that, Roach would like to see his pupil realize his dream of becoming the President of the Philippines.

“I’ve had discussions with Manny on having two more fights for his career and then maybe (stay) in the politician side of it,” Roach told boxingscene.com.

“Manny would like to fight a couple more times and then run for the presidency of his country. The first fighter to ever do that and it will be another part of his history and I think he will be really good at.”

The 41-year-old fighting senator made history in his last outing when he defeated Keith Thurman via split decision to claim the WBA world welterweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas where he became the oldest welterweight boxing champion ever.

Roach is looking at two potential opponents for Pacquiao’s last hurrah.

“We talked about opponents and a couple of names come up here, a couple of names come up there. There are a lot of names coming up and so forth,” he revealed.

“I kind of like Mikey Garcia. I think that’s a really, really good fight. What he would like best is [Floyd] Mayweather one more time.”

Other than the two names mentioned, Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. was also floated as Pacquiao’s next possible opponent, though fans can scratch the latter as he slated to defend his WBC and IBF world welterweight titles against Garcia in November.

And regardless of who Pacquiao picks for his next fight, Roach assures that the entire Team Pacquiao would throw their full support at the Filipino boxing icon.
