Amir Khan ready to dance with Oscar de la Hoya

Former world light welterweight champion Amir Khan reiterated his desire to face six-division champion Oscar de la Hoya when the latter makes a comeback inside the ring.

The 47-year-old De la Hoya ended speculations in a recent interview with ESPN stating that the rumors are true and that he is indeed headed to a ring return.

“He did say he wants to fight the top guys, so I decided I’m here. I would love that fight with Oscar de la Hoya because he is a legend in the sport of boxing. What a huge fight it’d be,” Khan told fighthype.com.

“I remember back in 2009 when I signed up with Golden Boy Promotions I thought maybe this opportunity would come one day. Maybe this is the time, maybe this is the opportunity. I want it.”

Khan, who holds a record of 34-5 with 21 knockouts, used to fight under De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. He recalls wanting to fight his boss back in the day and says that now may be the perfect time to make it happen.

“Oscar says he wants a dancing partner, I’m ready to dance. I remember sizing him up as well,” he recalled.

“I remember sizing him up, maybe one day, you just never know. Very similar height to me, the body frame was a little bit wider.”

Khan competed from 135 pounds to 147 pounds early in his career. The last time he went upwards 150 pounds was against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in 2016 where he was brutally knocked out in round six.

And if he gets his wish to fight De La Hoya, Khan would want to insert some key points to the contract to boost his chance of winning.

“154 [pounds] might be pushing it a little bit but when you’re up against a legend like Oscar then there might have to be some rehydration clause or something like that,” he quipped.

“I'm not going to do the same mistake I made against Canelo because size definitely matters in fights.” – JM Siasat/RC, GMA News
