Roy Jones Jr. eyes showdown with ex-UFC champ Anderson Silva

By JM SIASAT

Former four-division champion Roy Jones Jr. is not done fighting yet.

The 51-year-old Jones is coming off an eight-round exhibition against former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson last month which ended in an unofficial draw.

Having proven that he can still compete at his age, Jones’ trainer Tom Yankello revealed that they are looking to fight ex-UFC middleweight world champion Anderson Silva next.

“I think that rematch (with Tyson) and Anderson Silva are the two fights that he's looking at,” Yankello told The Sun.

“Anderson Silva would be the first choice for him as he feels like he could really do what he wants with him and it would be worth his while.”

A potential showdown between the two has been talked about for years. Before his exhibition with Tyson, Jones last fought in February 2018 against Scott Sigmon where he won by unanimous decision.

The 45-year-old Silva, meanwhile, has been recently cut by the UFC after losing 7 of his last 9 fights. He holds a mixed martial arts record of 34-11 and is considered as one of the greatest of all time in MMA.

If an offer comes their way, Yankello is convinced that Jones would gladly sign the contract and duke it out with the MMA superstar.

“He's been talking about fighting Anderson Silva for a long time and now he's not in the UFC they can make that happen,” Yankello stressed.

“If that fight was presented he'd fight again. I know he'd do the Tyson fight, he said that right after, we've talked about it.” —KG, GMA News
