Manny Pacquiao says Paradigm lawsuit 'has no merit', lawyers ready with counter charges

Eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao on Monday said he is not bothered with the breach of contract lawsuit filed against him in the United States.

In a statement reported by GMA News' Mav Gonzales, Pacquiao said the lawsuit against him 'has no merit.'

"Paradigm Sports’ lawsuit against me has no merit. Sadly, this frivolous lawsuit intends to distract my preparations for a historic fight. But it does not bother me a bit," the fighting senator said.

"My lawyers are on top of this lawsuit and are ready to file counter charges against Paradigm Sports," Pacquiao added.

Paradigm Sports on Friday filed a breach of contract complaint against Pacquiao, claiming that the boxer's camp veered away from talks to fight against Mikey Garcia, and instead announced a match versus Spence.

The lawsuit seeks to recoup $3,300,000 and requests an injunction to stop the Pacquiao-Spence fight slated for August 21.

Pacquiao's lawyer also called the lawsuit 'frivolous.'

The boxer's camp earlier said the fight against Spence is still on, adding that the sports management group has 'no legal basis to stop the fight from happening.'
