PH's Irish Magno bows out in Round of 16 of Olympic boxing tilt

Filipina boxer Irish Magno closed her campaign in the women's flyweight category of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics boxing tournament after a unanimous decision loss to Jutamas Jitpong of Thailand in the Round of 16.

Jitpong won 30-27 in four of the five judges' scorecards and 29-28 in the other.

The Thai boxer was no stranger to Magno.

The two were opponents in the semifinals of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, where Magno came out ahead. The Filipina, however, settled for a silver medal after falling prey to Nguyen Thi Tam of Vietnam in the gold medal match.

Magno was coming off a masterful win over Christine Ongare of Kenya, whom she bested via a unanimous decision in the Round of 32 last Sunday.
