Nesthy Petecio's mom turns to God as daughter fights for gold in Olympics

Prescilla Petecio, mother of Filipina boxer Nesthy Petecio, on Sunday said her family is praying for her daughter as the athlete fights for the country's second gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Nesthy, who won the Tokyo Olympics' semifinals of the women's featherweight division on Saturday, will face Sena Iria of Japan  to secure the gold medal.

"Dasal lang, na bigyan ni God lakas na pangangatawan na kayanin ni Nesthy 'yung kanyang laban. Sobrang laki ng makakatunggali niya," said Prescilla over Dobol B TV.

(We are praying to God to keep her strong in her next fight. Her next opponent is huge.)

Prescilla said they will borrow a projector to witness her daughter's fight in the featherweight finals. Nesthy's family will watch the fight at their home in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.

"Dito sa bahay lang namin. May plano manghiram ng projector para mas madaling panoorin laban ng anak namin," Nesthy's mom, her biggest supporter, said.

(We will watch here at our home. We plan to borrow a projector so that it would be easier to watch our daughter's battle.)

Prescilla said she already spoke to Nesthy after the fight.

"Wala naman daw po siyang iniindang sakit matapos ang laban niya kahapon," she said.

(Nesthy said she did not sustain any injury or experience any pain after the fight on Saturday.)

Nesthy said she is grateful for all the support she has been receiving in her journey to the Tokyo Olympics gold medal.

"Sa lahat ng nagdasal sa akin, thank you po!" she said in a video posted after she defeated Italy's Irma Testa in the semifinals. —KG, GMA News
