Pinoy former champ Jhack Tepora calls out Mark Magsayo: 'He will never be world class, I can knock him out'

By JM SIASAT

Former WBA interim featherweight champion Jhack Tepora is raring to get in the ring with his countryman and featherweight prospect Mark Magsayo.

Magsayo, 26, is coming off a tenth-round knockout over Julio Ceja on the undercard of Pacquiao vs. Ugas earlier this month. Though he got himself a win, Magsayo was floored by the Mexican slugger and Tepora was left unimpressed.

“I clearly see that I can knock him out, to me he is an easy fight. He has many flaws, he keeps running, has no stamina, and hugs a lot. He is very easy,” Tepora said.

Tepora, who holds a record of 23-1 with 17 knockouts, has been off the ring since he lost to Oscar Escandon via first-round knockout in December 2019. Magsayo, meanwhile, has fought twice in 2021 and now trains under the watchful eye of Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach.

But despite being under the watchful eye of a top-notch coaching team, Tepora cites that Magsayo has shown no improvement at all.

“The only thing that changed with Magsayo is that his head got big. That is the only thing that changed. Do not expect that you will be at our level, you will always be below us,” he said.

“You will never be world-class. Do not get so big-headed because you are an international [champion] only. You fought on Manny Pacquiao's undercard and I did that too the only difference is I am a world champion and you are international only.”
