Terence Crawford gives Shawn Porter his first stoppage loss to successfully defend welterweight world title

By JM SIASAT

Reigning WBO world welterweight champion Terence Crawford made another successful defense of his title following a tenth-round technical knockout over ex-champion Shawn Porter this Sunday at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, USA.

Porter came out swinging right off the gate while Crawford gauged his foe seemingly collecting data on what the former had to offer. Porter made it rough for Crawford as expected, luring his fellow American to brawl here and there.

Crawford got his senses in round 4, making good use of his footwork to avoid unnecessary exchanges only to fight Porter's fight again the following round. The fighters then exchanged heavy blows in round 6 where Porter found success in forcing a fight on the inside.

Crawford landed his patented counter right hook in round 7 then followed up with precise punches to the head. Porter answered back with a hard overhand right that got Crawford's attention.

In round 10, Crawford caught Porter with an uppercut that dropped him. The challenger got back on his feet only to receive more punches that sent him one more time to the canvas.

Having seen enough of the punishment he took, Porter's father and trainer Kenny climbed the ring to wave the white flag at the 1:21 mark of the round. The win improved Crawford’s record to 38-0 with 29 knockouts while Porter dropped to 31-4-1 with 17 knockouts.
