Inoue rematch the biggest fight of his career, says Nonito Donaire

By JM SIASAT

Four-division champion Nonito Donaire Jr. is calling his second fight with WBA and IBF world bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue the biggest fight of his illustrious boxing career.

Donaire, who currently holds the WBC world bantamweight title, went the distance with Inoue in 2019 where he lost via unanimous decision in a bout touted as Fight of the Year. They are scheduled to run it back on Tuesday, June 7 at the Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

“This fight means a lot to me. I think this is the biggest fight of my career,” Donaire said.

“This is the fight that I have been aiming for to accomplish everything that I have not accomplished. I have done everything except for becoming undisputed. This is the road to undisputed.”

The 39-year-old Donaire, 42-6 with 28 knockouts as a prizefighter, is coming off two wins via stoppages since losing to Inoue that fateful night. He however remains an underdog in the rematch against the Japanese star, who he concedes is the best fighter in the 118-pound division.

“The motivation is at the highest that I have been in boxing. I am just very very motivated. I think Inoue is the best fighter in the division and that is something that I am claiming by defeating him on fight night,” Donaire stated.

“That one thing that goes into mind is that I am the undisputed. That goes into my head and meditation. I am the best.”
