Amir Khan reveals feelers from Freddie Roach about exhibition fight vs Pacquiao

By JM SIASAT

Retired light welterweight champion Amir Khan revealed that there were feelers from Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach to set up a fight with Manny Pacquiao in an exhibition after the latter lost his bid in the Presidential election last month.

“Well, a friend of mine got a phone call from Freddie Roach, who just said that, ‘Listen, we want to get a fight. Manny didn’t win the election. Let’s do like an exhibition with Manny, or maybe a proper fight.’ They want to do it in the UK,” Khan told iFL TV.

Khan, who used to serve as Pacquiao’s sparring partner in the past, has wanted a big money fight with the Filipino boxing icon throughout his career. He, however, announced his retirement earlier this year after losing to Kell Brook via sixth-round technical knockout.

Pacquiao, meanwhile, also announced that he is done with boxing before he officially announced his candidacy for President. He last fought in August against Yordenis Ugas where he lost by way of unanimous decision.

But chances of a fight coming together isn't expected to be likely, especially with Khan already in retirement.

“You know what to be honest with you, all that bulls— chasing Mayweather, chasing Manny Pacquiao, it was not meant to happen then, maybe it’s not meant to happen now. I’m not going to chase them now,” Khan said.

“I kind of laughed about it. I didn’t even want to mention it because it’s probably all bollocks, to be honest with you.”
