Magsayo and Vargas trade barbs ahead of world title fight

By JM SIASAT

WBC world featherweight champion Mark Magsayo and former super bantamweight champion Rey Vargas dared and issued a stern warning toward each other ahead of their showdown on Sunday, July 10 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

“I hope Rey Vargas does not run too much so we can give a good fight to the people. I am not worried, I have beaten the best in my division so my confidence is high. You never fought a guy like me,” Magsayo told Vargas during the pre-fight press conference.

“If you want to exchange blows I am more than happy to do it. I see it as a compliment that you added people to your team because it means you are taking me seriously and not just another opponent. I think that is an advantage because it means you are worried,” Vargas responded.

Magsayo (24-0, 16KOs) and Vargas (35-0, 22KOs) both hold an unbeaten record going into the fight. The Mexican warned that he is going for the kill against the Filipino on fight night, but Magsayo is far from worried.

“I have an ace up my sleeve. They do not know what is coming and when that happens, that is when I am going to tear his head off. His confidence may be in the clouds but he is going to fall so hard that it is going to hurt a lot. I guarantee it is going to be a hell of a fight,” Vargas said.

“There would be only one left undefeated this Saturday, it is going to be me,” Magsayo quipped.
