Carl Jammes Martin feels ready for the big fights after successful title defense

By JM SIASAT

WBA Asia super bantamweight champion Carl Jammes Martin feels he is ready to compete in big fights overseas following his successful title defense over Charles Tondo this past Saturday at SM San Lazaro in Manila.

Martin, 23, was on the receiving end of a crisp right hook that caught his attention in round 4 before going the full twelve rounds against Tondo en route to winning the contest via lopsided unanimous decision. The scorecards were 119-109, 119-109, and 118-110.

“In reality, I have expected a situation where we would reach the final bell because I am leveling up my competition. I was surprised because I did not see it coming but I have sparred with heavy punchers so I was ready,” Martin told GMA News Online.

Martin, now 20-0 with 16 knockouts as a prizefighter, is currently signed by Probellum, which is spearheaded by former Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer. Should his handlers think he is ready to go for a world title, Martin says he is ready to take on the challenge.

“I have dreamed of fighting in another country since I was a kid. I am just waiting for my team to guide me, tell me my mistakes, and whether I am ready or not. But for me, I am ready to fight anywhere. I am ready [for a world title fight].”
