Vincent Astrolabio a world champion in the making – analyst

Veteran sports journalist and analyst Chino Trinidad is convinced that the newly crowned WBO inter-continental bantamweight champion Vincent Astrolabio is a world champion in the making.

Astrolabio, 18-3 with 13 knockouts as a pro, impressed this past weekend when he defeated Nikolai Potapov via sixth-round knockout in an IBF bantamweight eliminator.

According to Trinidad, not only does the Filipino pug has power but is also backed by a competent trainer.

"I have no doubt his power that even the referee got confused about what happened when he hit Potapov plus he has a really good trainer in Nonoy Neri," Trinidad said in an interview on Sparring Sessions.

And while the Philippines is ending the year without a world champion in boxing and mixed martial arts, Trinidad is hopeful that 2023 would be a time to look forward to as the likes of Astrolabio has shown that they can step up to the plate.

"It is good to look forward to 2023 because it seems like we can end our world championship drought. Maybe another tough fight then he would be next but since he won the eliminator he is now ready for a world title shot," Trinidad said.
