UP women, Ateneo men grab UAAP judo top honors

MANILA, Philippines – University of the Philippines trampled over the competition to win its third championship in UAAP women’s judo held in the weekend at the UP College of Human Kinetics Gym. Half-lightweight campaigner Ada Estanislao, named Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player, led the Lady Maroons’ charge that saw them collect 75 points and five out of a possible seven gold medals. University of Santo Tomas ranked second with 21 points, while La Salle finished third with 14. In the men’s category, half-lightweight Paulo Luz, the tournament MVP, spearheaded Ateneo’s triumph. The Eagles tallied 37 points overall. La Salle (32) and UP (28) completed the top three. It was Ateneo’s third championship in the UAAP seniors’ division following titles in men’s basketball and women’s swimming. – GMANews.TV
