MANILA, Philippines – Adamson moved closer of winning the UAAP softball title scoring an 8-6 victory over University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Wednesday’s penultimate elimination round game at the UST Field. The Falcons preserved the win with solid defense despite UST putting two runners on base with one out in the top of the seventh. The win was the Falcons’ ninth straight in the double round elimination. The team, which is seeking its ninth softball title, will go for the crown on Saturday against defending champion University of the Philippines, a 13-4 winner over Ateneo in the other game. “We played relax when we had a big lead. We must not play like this in our game against UP," said coach Ana Santiago who is bidding for her fourth title since assuming the head coaching job in 2005. Adamson dominated the league from 1997 to 2000 and repeated the feat from 2003 to 2007. The Lady Maroons ended their drive-for-five bid last year with a 10-0 sweep. UST rookie Ana Paghubusan homered against Adamson pitcher Cloiene Muyco in the first inning to give the Tigress a 1-0 lead. But Muyco, who is in her last UAAP playing year, got back with a solo-homer against UST hurler Aiza dela Torre in the second inning. She also had 10 strikeouts to win her pitching duel with Dela Torre whose team dropped to a 5-4 record. UE sent La Salle to its ninth straight defeat with a 10-2 rout in the final game. – GMANews.TV
