MANILA, Philippines – Burger King capped a conference which Yeng Guiao describes as “a good enough performance" with a second runner up finish following a 132-118 rout of Rain or Shine Wednesday night in their one-game battle for third in the Motolite-PBA Fiesta Cup at the Araneta Coliseum. Rebounding from two miserable games, Arwind Santos collected 27 points and 13 rebounds, leading the Whoppers’ superb balanced assault where six other players submitted double-digit scores. “Third place is good enough performance for this team," said Guiao. “It’s our first conference together. The room for improvement is really big for this team. We competed in this conference." Shawn Daniels added 16 points and 11 rebounds and Beau Belga had 10 rebounds and six points for the Whoppers, who lost to the San Miguel Beermen in six games of their semifinals series. Gabe Norwood, Rob Wainwright, and JR Reyes didn’t see action for Rain or Shine. Still, the ball club’s fourth-place finish will end up as its finest ever eclipsing the Elasto Painters’ sixth place result last conference. Mark Isip, Ryan Arana and crowd darling Mark Andaya all had career-high outputs in scoring. Isip had 29, Arana 24 and Andaya, receiving loud cheers from the crowd every time he gets hold of the ball, nine for the Elasto Painters. In a game where nothing really huge was at stake, the Whoppers jumped the gun early and never slowed down. They took a 36-23 lead after the first quarter, an advantage the Elasto Painters could no longer overhaul. Burger King even led by as mush as 25 points, 107-82. – GMANews.TV
