UE foils UST title sweep in UAAP girls volleyball
University of the East foiled reigning girlsâ champion University of Santo Tomasâ outright title bid after pulling off a hard-earned 21-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-21, 16-14 win over the Junior Tigresses in the UAAP junior volleyball tournament at the UE-Recto Gym. UEâs win ended USTâs 16-game winning run dating back from the 2006 season. UE now holds a 4-2 card while serving as consolation for UST is that they remain on top of the standings (4-1). Despite the wine, UE is not yet assured of a finals date with UST since La Salle-Zobel, holding a 2-2 mark at third place, can still catch up with them if the Lady Junior Archers sweep their last two games. In the boys division, defending five-time champion UE Junior Warriors moved closer of sweeping the title after posting a 25-6, 25-13, 25-12 demolition of National University. It was UEâs ninth straight win and another victory on Saturday, against the UST Tiger Cubs, can give them a record sixth consecutive crown. In other matches, last yearâs runner-up Ateneo remained third after a 25-23, 29-27, 11-25, 10-25, 15-12 win for the Eagletsâ fifth triumph against four defeats. The Tiger Cubs still occupy the second spot with their 6-2 slate. â GMANews.TV
