Tennis: Romania leads Australia at Hopman Cup

PERTH, Australia — Sorana Cirstea has beaten Samantha Stosur 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 to give Romania a 1-0 lead over Australia at the Hopman Cup mixed teams tennis tournament. Cirstea, who had lost both her previous matches against Stosur, broke the Australian's serve at 4-3 in the deciding set Saturday, then held her service to close out the match. Lleyton Hewitt will try to level the match for Australia when he plays Victor Hanescu of Romania in men's singles. Cirstea and Hanescu were scheduled to play Stosur and Hewitt in mixed doubles later Saturday. It was the only match Saturday. The United States, represented by U.S. Open quarterfinalist Melanie Oudin and John Isner, plays Sunday against Spain. – AP
