La Salleâs singles players made up for the Lady Archersâ losses in doubles play of the 72nd UAAP womenâs tennis tournament over the weekend at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.
The Lady Archers scored a 3-2 win over the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons behind the wins of Regina Santiago, Trudy Amoranto and Martina Guba in the singles division. Santiago beat Natasha Gaston, 6-0-6-2; Amoranto humbled Melisa De Los Reyes, 6-0-6-0 and Guba crushed Zhane Quintana, 6-1, 6-0. It was La Salleâs fourth win after five games while UP suffered its third setback against two victories. In the other womenâ match, reigning champion University of Santo Tomas cruised to a 4-1 triumph over Ateneo to even its record to 2-2 and remain second place in the standings.

UST completed a double-kill after the Tigers subdued the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 5-0, in the menâs division. The win was the fifth straight for the Tigers after drawing a second round bye. Reigning menâs titlist La Salle Green Archers demolished the University of the East Red Warriors, 5-0, to place second in the standings with a 5-1 win-loss card. â GMANews.TV
