La Salle, which was led by Chris Macasaet and John Kevin de la Vega with 14 points apiece, now occupies solo third behind early semifinalists back-to-back champion University of Sto. Tomas (10-1) and Far Eastern U (9-2). Ateneo, for its part, crushed University of the East 31-29, 25-22, 25-18, to catch up with the Maroons at fourth place with identical 6-6 win-loss cards. The Blue Eagles drew 16 points each from Narciso Intal Jr. and Andre Joseph Pareja as they repeated over their first-round victims.
